GUlLD Identification and Grading Standard of Emerald

Emerald is the green variety of berylfamily, mainly containing chromium and /or vanadium as the color agent. In GuildGem Laboratories, we have created ourown Color Master Set as a standard foraccurate and repeatable grading resultsfor emeralds. In terms of hue, tone andsaturation, the color of emeralds can beclassified into five grades: Light/Medium/Intens/Vivid-Verdant Green/Deep

Verdant Green

Verdant Green is the top color grade ofemeralds in Guild Gem Laboratories. lt is the bestpart of Vivid Green. Saturation and tone are two main considerations. Only Vivid Greenwith the highest saturation and well-balanced tone can reach the rating of Verdant Green.
Verdant Green represents a colorful, vivid and lively color. lt is a comprehensiveassessment of the overall aesthetics of the color. In Guild color grading system ofemerald, every emerald, irrespective of the geographical origin, can be graded as VerdantGreen. Emeralds with any of the features below will not be graded as Verdant Green.

-Color treatment, such as dyeing and coating;
-Distinct quality issues, including apparent color banding, dark inclusions and windowing;
-Surface cavity filling
-Obvious and widely distributed non-enhanced fractures;
-Moderate and significant clarity enhancement grades

Clarity Enhancement

Owing to the innate characteristics and growth environment of emeralds, clarityenhancement is a common practice in the trade. At present, various types of fillershave been applied to emerald, including colorless oil, wax, resin, etc. These fillers.possessing refractive indices close to that of emerald may make the fracturesand fissures within emerald less obvious to some extent, improving the overalappearance. Since the amount of fillers within may affect the value of emeralds, GuildGem Laboratories disclose the extent of clarity enhancement in each gemologicalreport of emeralds.
